Scripture Reading: Psalm 121
Do you need help today? Help physically, emotionally, on the job, or even with a relationship? If you need help today with anything, this Psalm is for you!
As I read and studied this passage, I could not help but think of the old westerns and war movies I like to watch on many Sunday afternoons. In those movies, when trouble comes and the shooting starts, people on both sides of the battle “head for the hills.” I believe that this is the motivation of the 121st Psalm. We can head for a hill called Sinai where God presented His law and declared His Holiness to Moses. God’s law was not given to hinder but to protect us.
Unlike the thousands of laws that change in the United States each year, God’s law and its principles never change.
Unlike the thousands of laws that change in the United States each year, God’s law and its principles never change. They are as important and applicable today as they were when He gave them to Moses.
When trouble comes, we can also run to a hill called Calvary, where Jesus died to satisfy the law, the place of mercy and grace, and where forgiveness flows freely! Calvary is the hill of hope and salvation!
Finally, we can run to the hill called Olivet. This is the place where Jesus ascended to the right hand of the Father. Jesus had once again proven to be who He said. He rose from the grave, then rose from the earth to heaven above, and will return in like manner as He left!
Do you need help today? Run to the hills, and place your faith in Jesus Christ our righteous, crucified, risen, and returning Savior!
Dr. Jeffrey M. Miller is the senior pastor at Gospel Lighthouse Chapel in Blue Creek, Ohio. He has served as an award-winning adjunct professor of theology and philosophy at Ohio Christian University, an addiction counselor, marriage and family counselor, and both a hospice and hospital chaplain.
He holds a Ph.D. in Christian Counseling and Psychology from Andersonville Theological Seminary, a Doctor of Ministry of Theology from Emmanuel Baptist Seminary, national accreditation as CPE (Clinical Pastor Education), and is licensed by the State of Ohio as a CDCAII (Chemical Dependency Counseling Assistant II). He has written one published book, The Gospel Nutshell, as well as two other books not yet published. He has also written for the Hancock County Courier in New Cumberland, WV, and currently writes for a Christian quarterly called A Drink from the Well.
Dr. Miller lives in Lucasville with his wife Laura. They have four children on earth – Meagan, Caleb, Kyle and Hali, and one in Heaven – Jonna.
